“To Him
who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before His glorious
presence without fault and with great joy – to the only God our Saviour be
glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord before all
ages, now and forevermore! Amen.”
-Jude
1:24-25
It is my
belief that, as humans, we are naturally inclined to think of the world as
revolving around ourselves, whether we do so consciously or not. Why the verse
above is one of my favourite Biblical verses is because it reminds me that the
world does not, in actual fact, revolve around me. It is a fact that is
constantly brought to my mind when I gaze upon the magnificence of His works –
the beautiful things that He has created on the earth, the blessings and
promises He has poured out in abundance, the salvation that has been won for me.
Each and every day, I am reminded that there is this amazing God who is
infinite and incomprehensible, whose mysteries and whose ways stretch out
beyond the boundaries of any human imagination. Just like the universe that
keeps expanding on and on, God’s glory just radiates out limitlessly.
Whenever I put myself at the centre of my own universe, everything destabilizes and goes awry. There are just so many demands on myself and on others to fulfil what I think is important. Whenever I start to place myself as the focal point – as inevitably, I, a fallen human being, would do – things start to fall apart.
I love the verse above because it starts with “To Him”. It’s only when the focus shifts to Him that the universe stabilizes and everything achieves perfect equilibrium. God, the Ruler and the King, He who holds the universe in His hands, reigns sovereign over every single thing, and nothing goes out of order, nothing is beyond His control. The verse yields a glimpse into God’s character, His complete, all-encompassing goodness and holiness enduring forever. He is even beyond everlasting for He was the one who created time in the first place. He is who He is.
I shall rejoice! I shall rest assured in the happy fact that God, the mighty creator of this world, is the one who is holding me, who uplifts me and who keeps me from stumbling. I have nothing to offer Him, nothing to contribute. Even in my own salvation, it is God who has provided the sacrifice. Whenever I feel that I have to exert some super-human effort to be the best that I could be, to prove my worth, I remember that the battle has been won. I am in Christ and I am contented knowing that God is leading the dance, and all I have to do is follow His rhythm.
Thus, Lord Jesus, remembering that You are the centre of my universe, it is only fitting that I dedicate this blog to You and build this blog upon Your foundation. J
This
blog was created because I felt that I wanted to pour my ramblings out somewhere,
and a blog seemed appropriate. There isn’t a set theme, or a particular set of
topics that I want to talk about; the blog is just a collection of my thoughts –
of whatever is on my mind - being translated into word form.
To God be the glory always! Establish the work of my hands, Father. (Psalm 90:17)
